105 and No End in Sight...

I have lived in the Grand Lake Region for 50 years, off and on, mostly on....since the fall of 1962.  After living in south Florida for the previous decade, that first winter back in Ohio(having been born in Van Wert and living in the small village of Scott for my first few years (1949-1953).  Of the years I have lived here, few days have reached triple digits...yesterday, July 4, 2012, was the hottest I have ever experienced in Western Ohio{having had hotter, but less humid, days in Dodge City, Kansas, and Amarillo, Texas, over the years)...105 with humidity and peak levels was in a word..."Brutal".

The next few days are looking to be just as bad, and the extended forecast, while somewhat cooler, upper 80s to near 90, will still be summer-like....it is indeed going to be a long, hot, summer, in the Heartland.

Will update as necessary...

The Heat is on.......S

The warm winter, and hot Spring{for the most part} has turned into the dry and heat of the first partial week of Summer.

Summer officially begins tomorrow, but in reality it has been with us for quite awhile....one cool week, the first one of June, with some rain, is about as good as it has been....for now we bake, and I suspect we will continue to do so for the next 8 to 10 weeks, before we get a break, sometime after Labor Day...

It's gonna be a long, hot, Summer....enjoy!

Freaky March....Winter Officially End..But?

Today begins the official beginning of Spring, but truthfully it began long ago.

After a much warmer, less snow filled winter in the Grand Lake Region, March has turned out like none I have seen in this area, since we moved here in the early 1960s...

The flowering trees and plants are at least a month ahead of normal, and today and tomorrow, March 20th and 21st are calling for sunshine and 85 for highs both days...needless to say both will be records, if they are reached.

Usually lawns get their first mowing in this part of the world about the first week of April, if then...many have already been mowed once, and by the weekend, most will have been trimmed once or twice...

Usually you expect weird weather to bring more weird weather from the opposite end, and this Spring may indeed do just that, however, at least for the next 10 days...highs, while drifting south out of the mid 80s, will still be in the 60s and 70s, well above normal for this time of year.

All Hell Breaks Loose in the Heartland!

The warmer winter of 2011-12 turned violent in the Grand Lake Region today...albeit most of the violent and deadly weather was south of us....especially in southern Indiana, where death and destruction were rampant in the area just north of Louisville, Kentucky.  With friends living Louisville, and a Vietnam buddy of mine, Tom McCandless living in Clark County, Indiana, where two small towns were leveled....it became a concern.

I am sadly certain, that the death toll will rise....the rest of the weekend is now looking cold and windy, more like your typical early March weather.

Photos-I was out shooting photos before Sunrise this morning, within an hour of Sol coming up, the storms had began their assault on the Midwest....
